IDC Reports 2011: Android is Getting Popular Quickly
International Data Corporation (IDC) just released their figures for the first quarter of 2011 according to which iPad has no dominant share in the market while Android has 34% market share.
Observing the last 3rd quarter of 2010 iPad had 93% of the market share while android was nowhere in the market. The Samsung galaxy tab was the only android tab to capture 17% of the market share in 4th quarter of 2010. The Samsung galaxy tab was not released to go after iPad. The only reason why Android captured 34% of the market share in the first quarter of 2011 is concerning the Apple.
IDC reported about android that, “Mobile phone vendors, such as Samsung and Motorola, who have focused their distribution through the telco carriers, found moderate success with their media tablets, but sales were largely stymied by many consumers’ unwillingness to sign up for the 3G/4G data plans that the carriers typically require along with these devices.”

As many wireless LANs became available in the start of the 2nd quarter, a complete change is expected. The upcoming figures of the second quarter will be more interesting. Android may overtake the complete market by March 2012 as 500000 phones of Android are activated per day. It is still expected by the Apple that they will release an iPad update by the end of this year.
The fact that android is taking up the market fast is because of the reason that people are starting to prefer laptops or notebooks instead of tabs. The 2nd half of the years report will be pretty more interesting for Android.
